fLight is a fun and fast-paced, light vs dark multi-player game. Two players inside the motion platform attempt to light beacons as five other players on iPads do their best to stop them. Within a Dream is an animated short that explores the powerful nature of dreams and their ability to inspire change within us. The story features Simon, a misbehaved boy who takes his mother for granted, and Stumblebumb, a dream fairy with some questionable work habits. On the night Stumblebumb visits Simon to deliver his dream, Stumblebumb’s tendency to drink on the job results in the dream getting misplaced. But in the end, Stumblebumb’s mistake helps Simon learn a valuable lesson. Rachel Young: Pre-visualization, Modeling, Rigging, 2D Assets/Animation, and 3D Animation. Hornet: Summer Internship

 

HORNET INTERNSHIP MISSION 

At Hornet, we believe in actively developing and encouraging new talent. Now going into its sixth semester, the Hornet internship program gives young artists a chance to get hands-on experience in a supportive environment. We match interns with projects based on their area of interest and level of expertise. 

The ideal intern is someone who is passionate about their craft, eager to learn, and excited about all that Hornet has to offer. If you are a recent graduate, new to the industry, or in your final year of schooling we urge you to apply. Read on for specific details of this semester’s opportunities. 

COMMITMENT & COMPENSATION 

The Hornet internship is full time and spans approximately four months based around the academic school year. Exact start and end dates will depend on the intern. Working full time is key to this program since it allows the intern to be assigned to real productions. If you are unable to commit to a regular forty-hour work week please hold off applying until you can. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Our intention is that interns be assigned to active productions. This is a central part of the Hornet internship experience. Under the careful watch of our department leads and directors, interns will be able to practice their craft while benefitting from regular critiques from industry pros. Additionally, their contributions to real projects will help expand their personal portfolios. 

Aside from project specific assignments interns may also be engaged in a variety of other tasks including creating pitch materials, revamping internal presentation templates, organizing asset libraries, and other jobs that may arise. 

JOB DESCRIPTIONS

EDITOR/COMPOSITOR
The Editor/Compositor intern will assist Editors in their daily execution of projects from research, cutting animatics, cutting in renders, outputting/compressing files to post to client. They will work closely with the Public Relations Coordinator, Production Coordinator, and Executive Producer on asset prep, reel creation, file format conversion and festival submissions. This person will also assist production teams on shoots, help facilitate pickups and deliveries.
Software/Skill Requirements: 
– Strong knowledge of post production pipeline for live action, using industry camera such as RED, Alexa and Canon 5D. 
– Experience being “On the Set” to assist production team, not limited to: script supervisor, technical assistant logging shots, basic media management, production assistant. 
– Full knowledge of Apple Final Cut Pro 7, to cut animatics, pre-vis, finished edit timeline integrating sound design, with ability to compress onto various file formats & compressions for delivery to clients using Apple Compressor. 
– Working knowledge of Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop. 
– Basic knowledge of Avid Media Composer. 
– Understanding of Broadcast Safety Standards, Vectorscope, Waveform monitor, Color theory and basic knowledge of color correcting and NLE workflow.

FABRICATOR
The Fabrication Intern will work out of the Houston Street studio and the workshop in DUMBO. This person needs to have an arts and crafts background. Experience in 2D animation is a plus. Knowledge of 3D animation is also a plus. Given the nature of this position, the ideal candidate needs to be self-sufficient and be able to work with little oversight. Taking the initiative and problem solving should be second nature to this person.

Responsibilities The DATG Products and Platforms team creates innovative consumer products in the digital space. From the Emmy award-winning ABC iPad player to the recently launched Watch Disney suite of apps and websites, the DATG Products and Platform teams brings entertaining first-rate content of the Walt Disney company to its fans, anytime and anywhere. 

Working with our product and video distribution teams, an undergrad intern will have the opportunity to learn about the fundamentals of the digital video business. Concentrating in the areas of consumer navigation and experience, the intern will work with the product team to ideate and execute enhancements to drive the digital viewing experience. Working with the digital video distribution team, the candidate will learn about the distribution ecosystem and how we service, program and structure internal sites, as well as partner sites such as Hulu and iTunes. 
• Assist with various aspects of the product lifecycle including conceptual, design, documentation, building, testing, and operations 
• Assist with graphic asset management 
• Learn the digital distribution workflow and help with the daily publishing schedule 
• Contribute to the digital scheduling strategy across the ABC, ABC Family, and Disney Channel long form products

DIGITAL MEDIA DEVELOPER

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree with 1-4 years experience developing media. Ability to quickly learn new programming languages and techniques. Student and/or professional experience in interactive software development with a focus on incorporating audio, video, and digital electronics. DUTIES: The Digital Media Developer will utilize their creative programming skills that integrate audio, video, motion, with user interface design to create unique visitor experiences that translate into the physical space. He/she will conceive, program and design interactive media experiences for science museum exhibits and special projects. He/she will work closely with a team of scientists and the design team to brainstorm, storyboard, program and/or customize software to prototype interactive experiences for testing and evaluation. The digital media developer will use all mediums of interactive digital media, including software, hardware, and web-based platforms, and is expected to understand and adopt new technologies as they become available. He/she will work closely with technical and exhibit designers to integrate technology into physical spaces. He/she will serve as a member of the core team for the development and design of capital campaign exhibit projects and creative services projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate in brainstorming sessions, developing storyboards and sketches to clearly communicate ideas.
  • Program and customize software to build interactive media experiences.
  • Work with outside media producers to ensure final production meets design standards.
  • Collaborate with content developers to communicate science content.
  • Collaborate with graphic designers to integrate graphic interface within digital media experiences.
  • Maintain an organized and professional workshop, keeping inventory of all computers and hardware.
  • Research technologies and equipment necessary to implement final designs within exhibits.
